1 sachet Colman's Sausage Casserole Recipe Mix
1 tbsp vegetable oil
450 g sausages
2 medium onions, sliced
115 g mushrooms, sliced
1 red pepper, sliced (optional)
300 ml cold water
Preheat the oven to 180°C, 170°C fan assisted, Gas Mark 4.
Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the sausages until browned, add the onions and cook for a further 3-4 minutes until softened. Place in an ovenproof casserole dish with the mushrooms and pepper.
Blend the contents of the sachet with the water and add to the dish. Cover and cook for 1 hour.
Enjoy with creamy mashed potato and seasonal vegetables.
For slow cookers: Fry sausages and onion in 1 tbsp oil until browned. Place in slow cooker with mushrooms, pepper and sachet contents. Mix well, then stir in 300 ml boiling water. Cover and cook on 'low' setting for 8-10 hours or 'high' setting for 4-6 hours. Slow cookers vary. Instructions are based on a 3 litre model.

Flavoursome

I received this free from Ocado in return for a review. In the past, my husband would buy a packet like this - more as a hint of what kind of meal he would like. Sausage hot pot being a family favourite, I wouldn't normally use a packet, so it was interesting to revisit our past. I followed the instructions to the letter, which made me realise that 450g of sausages is not that easy to find. I am sure 400g would suffice! We all enjoyed it, and found the sauce was flavoursome, and better than I expected from a packet. I probably wouldn't buy again, but I will instead revisit my current family recipe and switch it up a bit.
